Why yes. The SSC is the box that it comes in. Would you believe you can fit two PIXYs in there? | September 15, 2009

    What is it?
    Suzuki PIXY+SSC Concept

    What's special about it?
Surprisingly, there's not that much that's special about it, actually.

Only at the Tokyo show could something (or things, as the case may be) like this two-part concept be considered derivative. We've seen a very similar personal mobility device very much like the adorably named PIXY from Toyota before.

And the whole rolling-box-that-carries-a-sort-of-wheeled-dinghy thing was done most recently by Honda, with its Unibox. We grant that the Honda had a bit of a German-airport vibe to it, where the Suzuki is totally cartoon-space-pod in its appearance. And the SSC (the box part) carries two PIXYs (PIXIES?) instead of the single minibike of the Unibox. From what we gather, the PIXYs might even provide the driving force for the box, which is called the SSC for Suzuki Sharing Coach.

The most interesting aspect is that the whole deal was created to satisfy the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Next-Generation Vehicle and Fuel Initiative. The aim of this initiative is to "realize the world's most people-centered motorized society." We suppose that's a noble cause...we think...maybe.

Suzuki notes that the PIXY would be easy to operate, "even for people who can't drive conventional cars." This is, well, a little scary.

Seems like a better idea to just take the train and then walk from the station to your final destination. That could be called the TRAIN+WALK.
