NEW DELHI — Compact crossovers are the hot ticket this year at the Auto Expo show here — the latest example being the Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha Concept, which previews the Indian automaker's upcoming entry in the segment.
The XA Alpha joins similar entries from Hyundai and Ford in what appears to be a segment that is growing in popularity in India, especially among young families and singles.
Measuring less than 160 inches long and derived from the Suzuki Swift, the XA Alpha has SUV styling cues and is described by the company, one of India's largest vehicle manufacturers, as an entry-level utility vehicle aimed at customers with "a young urban lifestyle."
The production version of the car, due to arrive in India around 2014, will offer four-wheel drive as an option, as well as a choice of four-cylinder gas and diesel engines.

Yes, especially the roof line/belt line from the side and the boxy extension of the hatch.
