2007 Los Angeles Auto Show: Surf's Up With Suzuki Makai Concept

LOS ANGELES — Much of the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show may be dominated by hybrids and talk of energy conservation. But at least one automaker — Suzuki — decided to pay homage to the locale with a concept aimed squarely at surfers.

The Suzuki Makai concept is a citrus-toned vision thanks to its Sunset Orange paint job and matching surfboard mounting rack, fitted with surfboards trimmed in the same paint color. Other exterior details include 19-inch CEC wheels, Michelin Pilot sport tires and four-wheel disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors and Rotora calipers. The concept also gets a custom body kit as well as LED taillights and running lamps.

The beach-party theme continues into the cabin with a VeaLink audio system with MTX speakers and components, a Momo Sport steering wheel and color-keyed interior accent lighting.

What this means to you: We're glad to see at least one automaker getting into the LA spirit. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
