- The recall is expected to officially begin on July 9.
WASHINGTON — Suzuki is recalling 5,107 Kizashi vehicles in the U.S. to replace the instrument panel center lower box, which may open in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Japanese automaker has issued a stop-sale order to dealers on the Kizashi in the U.S.
"The hinged door of the center lower box located in the front dashboard area fails to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard No. 201, 'Occupant Protection in Interior Impact,' " said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "The door may open in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle's occupants."
On June 21, Suzuki asked its dealers to stop delivery of the affected vehicles in stock until they are fixed, according to other paperwork filed with the federal government and signed by Hotaro Yagi, Suzuki Motor Corp. general manager of the service department.
Suzuki dealers will replace the instrument panel center lower box. The recall is expected to begin on July 9. Owners can contact Suzuki at 714-996-7040.

I have owned a 2010 Kizashi for about 5 months. I have a rattle in the back somewhere that has been driving me crazy. I brought the car over to the place I got it 2 times. I went with the mechanic over a rough road. He heard it too and said it sounded like a bushing and that even though it's new they do dry out. I brought the car in to have it fixed. Went with a mechanic again. Again he heard it. Brought it in the Suzuki shop, siiconed the bushing, checked everything and torqued what ever. @ mechanics took it for a ride and said they couldn't hear it. Well, guess what my daughter and I went into town and within 10 min. it was doing it again. I stopped on the way home and told the mechanics it was still doing it. Told to make an appt. and bring the car back. Upon arriving home I took. the tire, styrofoam piece the tire sits in and the tools out. Still doing it. This is my 1 st new car and I'm disgusted. Has anyone else had a problem or know of someone who has? I've spoke to 2 other owners and they have the same problem.

So Suzuki is not just issuing a recall but also ordering a halt in sales of the existing Kizashi's until they can have the center console storage compartment door hinge replaced? Jeepers, that kinda seems like a bit of OVERKILL for such a miniscule issue LOL!
But I guess it's good to see Suzuki standing 100% behind their product like that, even for something so minor.
Honestly, something so minor like that wouldn't even stop me from buying a new Kizashi if I was in the market for one, even if I had to wait for the new part to be delivered and then swapped out at the dealership.
The best thing about this is that it's all being taken care of BEFORE Suzuki launches their major national advertising campaign on the Kizashi.
I wonder if they are ever going to get the new Swift over here though? If they added the new Swift to their existing U.S. line-up that would really bolster their ability to pull people in to their dealerships and also give more incentive for existing car dealers to add Suzuki to their car lots.
