2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7
What's special about it?
If you're tired of seeing monster truck-sized SUVs that do nothing but grocery store duty, the XL-7 might just be your ticket. It's just shy of a Grand Cherokee in exterior dimensions, but comes in at a price usually associated with the mini-ute category-starting just under $20K. It offers seating for seven, a 170-horsepower V6, and the typical array of creature comforts if your wallet allows. There's a low-range gearbox on four-wheel-drive models if you're really interested in hardcore off-roading, and it sports a 3,000 lb. tow rating if you would rather just pull the toys along in back. All this and you won't block out the sun when you park it in the driveway.
Why should you care?
In a land of super-sized SUVs, Suzuki has managed to cram a seven-passenger sport-ute into a nicely sized package that won't cost an arm and a leg to buy or fill up.
