2004 Suzuki Forenza
What's Special About It?
Ever close to GM, Suzuki is already reaping the benefits of the General's purchase of Daewoo Motor Company. Well, sort of. One of two introductions in Chicago, the Forenza compact sedan is essentially a replacement for the Daewoo Nubira and will be built by GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Company. Where that leaves Suzuki's own Aerio sedan is anybody's guess.
In any case, the Forenza will be powered by a rather weak 2.0-liter inline four worthy of just 119 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. Both a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic will be offered.
Standard equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes; 15-inch wheels with 195/55R15 tires; air conditioning; power windows, locks and mirrors; a CD player; steering wheel-mounted stereo controls; and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Options include keyless entry, alloy wheels, leather upholstery and a sunroof.
Why Should You Care?
Suzuki says that the Forenza will be priced between $12,000 and $15,000 and compete with the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra. Strangely, that's also the territory the 145-horsepower Aerio purports to cover. Wonder which one we'd rather have. Erin Riches
