    • Subaru is recalling 69,590 2011 Legacy and Outback vehicles because the moonroof glass can loosen and detach from the roof during driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
    • Subaru said the adhesive was improperly applied to the moonroof and that it has received one technical report of the problem in the U.S.
    • The recall is expected to begin in October.

WASHINGTON — Subaru is recalling 69,590 2011 Legacy and Outback vehicles because the moonroof glass can loosen and detach from the roof during driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The moonroof glass comes loose or off," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "The amount and position of the adhesive between the glass and retainer was inadequately applied. The moonroof glass can loosen and detach from the vehicle during driving, resulting in a potential road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash."

It is the second recall for the 2011 Legacy and Outback this week. Earlier, Subaru recalled 195,080 2010-'11 Legacy and Outbacks because components inside the wiper motor bottom cover may overheat and could lead to a fire, according to NHTSA.

In other documentation filed with the federal government, Subaru said it has received one technical report of the moonroof defect in the U.S.

Subaru dealers will inspect the glass adhesion condition and either apply additional adhesive or replace the moonroof glass. The recall is expected to begin in October. Owners can contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783.

    Hear, hear Lions.

EVERY car has recalls-- even the supposedly most reliable brands.

My '05 Outback is the best, and most reliable, car I have owned in my more than 50 years of buying new cars.  But it also had some minor factory recalls.

At least it didn't come with only half of the roof being painted (like my '78 LeMans did)

At least it didn't shear off the crankshaft pulley and disable my OB (like my '70 Mustang did).

At least it didn't stop running at highway speeds (like my '75 Audi)

At least the air conditioner didn't fail (like my '91 and '95 SHOs)

I think you get the idea.

Once again dg, speak for yourself. Not too many Legacy owners are willing to sell there cars. I own an 09 Legacy GT, and it out performs many more models that are much more expensive.

We get it, you don't like Japanese cars. You're probably the owner of an older model BMW and brag's about your base model 3 series even though your spend more time having it fixed than driving it.

A fully loaded Legacy cost less than a fully loaded Accord, and I would take a Subaru over a Camry or Accord any day of the week.
