2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B
What's Special About It?
"Special" might be too strong a word as this new limited-edition 2006 Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B doesn't get the full-blown performance treatment like its European and Japanese counterparts. The U.S. version pushes the Legacy closer to the performance side of the family without making any serious changes under the hood.
Most of the spec.B's upgrades are related to the suspension starting with a new set of inverted Bilstein struts up front similar to those used in the Impreza WRX STI. Both the front and rear suspensions also get aluminum lower control arms for reduced weight. The final touch is a standard set of 18-inch wheels wrapped in 215/45 low-profile rubber.
Since most of its suspension upgrades are buried underneath the sheet metal, Subaru also gave the spec.B a few cosmetic enhancements to set it apart from the standard model. A subtle ground effects kit makes the car look slightly lower while an exclusive Titanium Metallic color is a more obvious sign of its spec.B status.
The clues are hard to miss inside as all spec.Bs get a Brick Red leather-trimmed interior, a Momo steering wheel, aluminum pedals and the all important embroidered floor mats. Only 500 Legacy spec.Bs will be shipped to the U.S. so each one also gets a numbered plaque on the dash.
What's Edmunds' Take?
With its soft suspension, the standard 2.5 GT is no match for its 250-hp engine. The spec.B should be a better combination, and a much better sport sedan. — Ed Hellwig
