LAS VEGAS — The focus is on tuned performance at Subaru's 2008 SEMA Show stand, with the WRX sub-brand woven through several products.
The 2009 Impreza WRX SPT dips into the Subaru Genuine Accessory and SPT parts catalogs for such exterior add-ons as an STI front lip spoiler and foglamp protectors. High-performance hardware includes STI springs, 19-inch OZ Botticelli III wheels, an SPT cat-back exhaust system, an STI short-throw shifter and other goodies. The turbo 2.5 boxer engine has been nudged to 275 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque.
The Fast & Furious 4 WRX STI, featured in the upcoming movie, gets a Veilside body kit, hood, seats, steering wheel and shifter, as well as 18-inch Continental Sport Contact 2 tires on Enkei NT03+M wheels and a custom black-and-silver paint job with red pinstriping by Jack's Auto Body.
The AEM Impreza WRX is aimed at surfers and snowboarders, with Yakima carriers and a Mobworks custom paint job. Under the hood, a Garrett GT3582R turbocharger, an AEM water injection system and other modifications help boost output to 449 hp and torque to 411 lb-ft. The car rides on 18-inch Toyo Proxes tires on Volk Racing GTV wheels.
The Crawford Performance Unlimited Class Time Attack WRX STI features a purpose-built 500-hp version of the Billet SR6 2.65-liter Subaru race engine, producing a staggering 500 lb-ft of torque. Prepared especially for Time Attack, the car rides on 18-inch Volk Racing wheels and Hankook rubber, with Brembo brakes and TEIN suspension bits.
Inside Line says: The WRX and WRX STI are so good right out of the box, it still boggles the mind to see how more potential can be squeezed out of these über-Imprezas. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
