    Just the Facts:
    • Subaru Cosworth Impreza WRX STI CS400 has been priced at $71,750.
    • Only 75 copies will be sold.
    • The Cosworth STI will not be available in the U.S.

LONDON — Seventy-five lucky Brits with $71,750 to spend will have the opportunity to purchase the exceedingly rare Cosworth edition of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI when it goes on sale next month exclusively in the U.K.

Official images and the price — £49,995 — have been making the rounds on the Internet ahead of the car's official on-sale date. Details on the car were released earlier this year at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show. At the time, Subaru of America told Inside Line that the Cosworth edition will not be available in the U.S.

According to Britain's Autocar, Cosworth has modified the STI's turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-4 engine, fitting performance pistons, bearings, con rods, head gasket and oil pump, a reprogrammed ECU, an upgraded blower and a custom exhaust system.

The modifications hike output to 395 horsepower and torque to 398 pound-feet. The zero-to-60-mph sprint takes less than 3.7 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 155 mph.

Bilstein and Eibach collaborated with Cosworth on the suspension, which features new coils that help lower ride height by 0.4 inch. Bespoke brakes from AP Racing get larger front discs with six-piston calipers.

The car's appearance is enhanced with a redesigned front bumper, foglamps, mesh grille and rear spoiler, plus new 18-inch alloy rims and Cosworth badging. Exterior color choices are dark gray, red and silver.

The cockpit includes Recaro sport buckets, piano black center console and tinted glass.

These guys need to lay off the crack pipe.

It needs at least another 100HP to be in that price range.

They should be able to sell seventy-five of them.  Make it an even hundred and things might get dicey.

GT-R performance, but at a GT-R price.  For $72k, 0-60 in under 4 sec is given, at least to me.

I still think the Evo X is a much better looking car. In the UK you can buy the FQ 400bhp version which outperforms this WRX and costs less. Any case of some marketing and accounting people trying to milk a few bucks from the Cossie badge.
And as for the GT-R time of 3.2/3.3, that was the old launch mode without the VDC which voids the warranty. The 2010 updated cars will do 3.5/3.7.

The fact that this is a Cosworth car almost makes it worth it.  I say almost because I'd prefer the new sedan version.

    0-60 in < 3.7 seconds is very impressive. That's GT-R status. Wow.

No way that designation is long enough to impress everyone.
    It should read:
Subaru Sapphire Cosworth Impreza WRX STI CS400 Type R A-Spec JTM Rally Edition
That should still fit across the back of the car, LOL
