TOKYO — Subaru is teasing Japanese customers with partial snaps of the all-new Exiga crossover wagon, ahead of the car's June 17 unveiling.

Unfortunately, the automaker has no immediate plans to market the seven-passenger Exiga in the U.S., according to a Subaru of America spokesman, "although that doesn't mean never."

The Exiga debuted last fall as a concept at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show, using the slogan "7-Passenger Panoramic Touring." The all-wheel-drive concept was powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer-4 mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox and featured a tall roof with a large panoramic glass panel.

The Exiga is sized between the Legacy wagon and the Tribeca MPV. No word yet on pricing in the Japan domestic market.

What this means to you: Imagine a Japanese competitor to the Volvo XC70 wagon, and you get the basic idea. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
