- Details are scant on the racing companion to Subaru's new rear-drive sports coupe.
- The BRZ GT300 will compete next year in Japan's Super GT series.
- The racecar is expected to feature a 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine.
TOKYO — When Subaru officially unveiled its new BRZ sports coupe at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show on Wednesday, a companion racecar, the BRZ GT300, was quietly positioned alongside the "Toyobaru."
Without revealing any technical specs or details, Subaru confirmed the BRZ GT300 will compete next year in Japan's Super GT touring-car series.
The BRZ racecar is expected to feature a 300-horsepower turbocharged variant of Subaru's latest 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine.
The BRZ GT300 is kitted out with full racing bodywork, including a vented hood, side skirts, wide wheel arches and massive rear wing. The car rides on Yokohama Advan performance rubber mounted on 18-inch racing wheels.
Inside Line says: Considerably more aggressive than the BRZ STI concept that was shown earlier this month at the Los Angeles auto show.

@smallfield
Doubtful. These competition vehicles are purpose built. The mid-engined IS350 is probably the finest example of this or perhaps the reverse longitudinal mounted engine in the NSX back in 2003.

Why would this drive them crazy? The Nissan GT-R has competed in SuperGT (GT 500 class) since 2008. Heck even the "next-gen NSX" (HSV-010) has competed for several years.

Now this won't take a C6.R Corvette, but it's enough to drive the gtr fan boys nuts. HA HA HA, that's why I like it.

From a glance, I thought it was a racing version of the Toyota 86...It is actually a Subaru
