TOKYO — Two concept versions of the 2013 Subaru BRZ sport coupe, one from STI and one from the tuner Prova, will be displayed at the upcoming 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon.

The Subaru BRZ STI Concept is similar to the BRZ Concept STI that was unveiled in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Los Angeles show car featured a hexagonal lower front grille, "hawk eye" headlamps, fin-shaped foglamps, front spoiler, rear wing, flared fenders, rear diffuser, twin exhaust pipes and carbon-fiber roof, as well as 18-inch STI wheels and performance tires (215/45R18 front, 225/45R18 rear), Brembo brakes and an STI-tuned suspension.

For the Tokyo salon, the BRZ STI Concept will sport many of the same pieces, including Bilstein shocks, Brembo brakes, 18-inch STI wheels, a sport muffler, lowering springs, deck spoiler, chin spoiler and carbon-fiber hood and roof.

Japanese tuning house Prova also will display the BRZ Black Edition at the salon, but has provided no details in advance of the show. Prova is running a teaser shot of the BRZ concept on its Web site.

Inside Line says: It's only a matter of time before STI develops a serious production version of the BRZ, and given how good the standard car is, the BRZ STI could really be something special.

Not a bad design from Subaru.

If you think 225's on an AWD car in the mid 200hp range isn't enough, you don't know jack sh!t about cars. The quickest, easiest way to ruin a car's driving character and remove the fun from it is to over-tire it. Benchracers....

Moving on, I hope this STi concept is indicative of something me might actually see reach production. Everyone keeps clamoring for a turbocharged model, but I think a Cosworth breathed-on NA variant w/ 250-260hp would be even better. I love me some NA power. Bring it on, baby.

It's gotta have 690 HP to peak my interests as I'm a professional internet bench racer and I never lose!!

    Are there sarcasm tags here?

Seriously, this is going to be a very fun car to drive, but people just look at HP numbers and move on. It's so sad.

TAS is a tuner show. These are the cars you are supposed to see, not production cars.

I find it slightly ironic that those throwing out the "who cares" cards all over the table took the time to read the article.

An STI model would be great for the BRZ as well as the FR-S in my opinion.  It will draw in more enthusiasts in the market to at least take a gander.  This interest should theoretically increase sales of lower models as well, when buyers decide that the standard car is awesome all by itself.

I'm sure the Scion will sell the most as long as its priced below the BRZ.  Anyone, even die-hard Subie fans would be crazy not to at least look into the FR-S.  They both look to be pretty impressive, affordable cars.  When I'm in the market in the next few years they'll be on my list of cars to look into.

I can't wait to get an STi BRZ.  My SI is begging me to lay it to rest!

people are hilarious. if your asking why this car doesn't have "more power", or if your comparing it to a mustang, 370Z, genesis-c. do yourself a favor don't bother reading about it, looking at it, sitting in it or driving it. why? cause you won't get it. if all the global reviews are unanimous regarding how great the car is, what makes the joe wanna be driver a sports car expert?

Man, some of you are just moronic with your statements. Passing and not caring about the car because it's been covered and teased too much? That's ridiculous. How it that the car's fault?

A great car is a great car no matter how many times it gets teased or how long it takes to come out.

If your decision on whether to buy or like this car is based off of how many teases there have been then you people are retarded.

"225 rear tires for an STI version? that wouldn't even cut it if it had AWD"

Silly ddark13, dont you remember that the WRX only had 215 tires on 16's with AWD and 227hp?  225 is good for this car's dynamics in stock trim.

"Who cares?  And are they really still calling it a concept?  Zero interest left in these cars."

Funny coming from a guy called GTRguy when the GTR was talked about for much longer.  Good car but lets be real.  They call it Concept as that is not the Production version and they want to gauge interest.

I dont think the Prova version is going to be anything better than basic bolt on's with a flashy aero kit.  My.02.
