SHANGHAI, China — China's Soueast Automotive unveiled a new hatchback crossover concept, the Soueast V4, at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show this week.

The V4 is a companion to the Soueast V3 Lingyue sedan that was unveiled at last year's Beijing show and went into production in August. Like the V3, the V4 is expected to borrow underpinnings from the Mitsubishi Lancer, which is built and sold in China as the Lioncel.

Fujian-based Soueast is a longtime local partner of Mitsubishi.

The production version of the V4 will use the 109-horsepower Mitsubishi 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that also powers the V3 Lingyue. Soueast reportedly plans to price the V4 from around $10,000.

Inside Line says: The V3, which carries a lower sticker, has been selling briskly, especially in southern China. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
