FRANKFURT, Germany — The Brabus Ultimate High Voltage may be the ultimate Smart Fortwo of the future, particularly since it packs a lithium-ion battery pack and electric motors jointly developed with Tesla Motors.
The full electric car zips from zero to 60 mph in less than 9.8 seconds and generates a whopping 207 pound-feet of torque to go along with its 82 horsepower. It is essentially the near-production evolution of the Brabus Electric Drive concept that was shown earlier this year at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.
The new model features 18-inch tires mounted on rims with plexiglass covers for improved airflow, as well as Widestar side skirts and wheel arches and LED daytime running lights.
The seats are finished in white leather with yellow stitching. Drivetrain and battery functions are display on a monitor in the center console.
Inside Line says: The most amusing element of the car is the "artificial sound generator," which enables the silent-running EV to imitate the noise of a big American V8 or a racing car, according to Brabus. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
