Smart Kicks Off Design Contest for Fortwo

    0 Ratings

STUTTGART, Germany — Smart is not limiting itself to the rather insular automotive design community when it comes to remaking its Fortwo. Instead, it said it is open to "outside ideas" as it kicked off a global contest to redesign the little car on Tuesday.

Participants can tinker with the Fortwo's redesign at a dedicated Web site. Smart said prizes, with a total value equivalent of $7,205, are up for grabs in this contest.

"Smart is looking for the coolest Smart design," the automaker said in a statement. "The design contest offers all Smart drivers and fans a platform to lend expression to their creativity."

Designs can be submitted online until February 23. An independent expert jury will pick the best contributions based on the "community ratings," Smart said. Winners will be announced on February 26.

Redesign is right!!!  This car has a looooooooooong way to go to becoming a value for the dollar.  Far too small and fuel economy that just isn't good enough to convince people into driving something this small when you can do just as good with a Toyota Yaris or even the current generation Chevrolet Aveo for not too much more money.  A car this size should get more than 55 miles to the gallon....Remember the 3-cylinder Geo Metro XFi???  Those got that kind of gas mileage so why can't this???
