- Smart's Fortwo receives a face-lift for the new model year.
- A revised cabin and new matte green exterior paint are among the changes.
- Engine options are also updated to run cleaner than the outgoing Fortwo.
STUTTGART, Germany — Although it's being billed as a new generation, the Smart Fortwo for fall is really just a face-lift of the current car, with a revised cabin, cleaner engines and a new optional matte paint finish.
The Fortwo also adds LED daytime running lights and new 15-inch alloy wheel designs, as well as new interior fabrics and colors.
Smart says its 60- and 70-horsepower gas engines are among the cleanest in Europe, with CO2 emissions of less than 100 g/km.
Smart is expanding the Fortwo's color palette this fall, with the addition of a new matte green exterior finish. The front spoiler, side skirts and rear apron now can be painted on request in body color.
The instrument panel has been restyled, with updated gauges. Customers can order new ambient lighting with dimmable LEDs, as well as a new multimedia system that bundles navigation and audio with an iPod interface.

I would really consider buying a Smart fortwo if they offered the Desiel version in the US. Does anyone know why they are not offering this option? Or if they plan to in the near future?

Green Paint! At last!
Everybody knows paint is why Smart hasn't even MET YUGO first-year sales, during 5 years in the US market.

Yeah everyone is doing LED now..
Anways can't really tell the difference. They need to spec out a nice 1.8 litre Honda or Toyota engine to give it some much needed horsepower for merging on the freeway.

The diesel version we got in Canada did get 70 mpg. Sales were great until they dropped it for the American version.
No mention if they have finally changed the universally disliked semi auto transmission. That is the cars greatest failing IMHO.

If it got 70 mpg then that thing would have a purpose. As it stands it was just the latest 'look at me' car. And I think its time has passed.
