TORRANCE, California — The base 2012 Scion xB RS 9.0 with a five-speed manual transmission starts at $18,840, while the base 2012 Scion xD RS 4.0 starts at $16,980. Prices include a $730 destination charge.
The special Scions were introduced Thursday.
Only 1,500 units of the xB Release Series 9.0 will be built. Only 800 units of the xD RS 4.0 will be built.
The uplevel 2012 Scion xB RS 9.0 with a four-speed automatic transmission starts at $19,790, while the uplevel 2012 Scion xD RS 4.0 with a four-speed automatic transmission starts at $17,780. Prices include shipping.
Scion said the xB RS 9.0 features Hot Lava exterior paint and illuminating vehicle locator badges. When the doors are remotely unlocked, the front and rear Scion badges light up. Other details include honeycomb pattern lower side vent covers, a sequentially numbered badge that lights up and perforated synthetic suede front and rear seat covers.
The xD RS 4.0 comes in Blizzard Pearl exterior paint and features 16-inch alloy wheels with a smoked platinum finish. Other details include interior trim pieces finished in Blizzard Pearl, an RS numbered badge and carpeted floor and cargo mats with the Release Series logo.
Scion's Zeus marketing campaign continues and will feature the Scion xB and xD Release Series vehicles. A new 30-second commercial will air nationally on October 3.
The Zeus campaign is designed to bring a more "lighthearted and comedic approach" to Scion advertising and steers "away from their traditionally dark/urban feel," said Beyond Marketing Group in an e-mailed statement to Inside Line.
Zeus is the supreme god, according to Greek mythology and serves as the protector and ruler of humankind, the dispenser of good and evil, and the god of weather and atmospheric phenomena, according to the Oxford Encyclopedic English dictionary.
Inside Line says: Burger King threw out its bizarre monarch mascot and his odd antics in August. He seems to have been resurrected by Scion as Zeus.

It's like they're not even trying anymore. I don't understand how Scion got the first gen xA xB and tC so right, and got everything new so wrong. What happened?

At least the colors are better than the school bus yellow on the Corolla Coupe, I mean TC. Seriously Toyota, nothing says fun to drive like something painted the same color as a school bus.

Actually, Scion is being clever. They know only the dumbest of people would buy their cars anyways, so they organized a marketing scheme to match the intelligence of the buyers.

RS = Some lights and some body kits attached to add more UMPH!
Come on Toyota. You could do better. Shame that the FR-S will be sitting on the same showroom as this thing.
I think the emoticon expression XD pretty much sums up both Scions.

Put 9.0 liter engine in that scion. Then we'll talk.

Still 600 lbs too heavy and 22mpg is an embarrassment.

"The Hamstars put this to shame!!"
Exactly. Kia figured the market out pretty well, and went and updated their funky box for 2012. These things? More recycled garbage.
Hey Toyota! Even KIA has dropped the 4 speed automatics for 2012.

Why isn't Black Dynamite raving about this Toyota news? Let me guess.....It's sooo funny that it's
definitely embarrassing to even say anything positive. A 4 speed guzzling 4 cylinder with plasticky
hub caps standard....Oh, wait....a Scion light show to boot! ROTFLMAO~~~The Hamstars put this to
shame!! They should have Zues say in the end..."So long, SUCKERS!" That would be the funniest ad ever!

These "Release Series" models make no sense at all. The wheels aren't even different. I've definitely bought my first and last Scion!
