- The 2011 Scion tC will include a more powerful engine and new transmissions.
- The new 2.5-liter four will make 180 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
- The new tC will also include 18-inch alloy wheels and larger brakes.
NEW YORK — The Scion tC gets its first major overhaul this fall, when the 2011 edition arrives at U.S. dealers. The sporty coupe will feature a larger, more powerful engine and new transmissions.
As part of its first major redesign since its 2004 launch, the tC is being fitted with a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 180 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque, compared with 161 hp and 162 lb-ft for the 2.4-liter unit that powers the current model. Toyota said the 2.5 also will get better fuel economy and will be equipped with a sport-tuned exhaust system.
Two new transmissions, a six-speed manual and a six-speed sequential-shift automatic, replace the current five-speed manual and four-speed automatic.
The 2011 tC rides on a new platform with a lower ride height than its predecessor. Suspension is via MacPherson struts in front and double wishbones in the rear. Eighteen-inch alloy rims and larger brakes are part of the package, along with a new electronic power steering.
Under the new sheet metal, the tC sports a roomier cockpit with new sport bucket seats, redesigned instrument cluster, three-spoke steering wheel, standard panoramic moonroof and an AM/FM/CD/USB audio system with eight speakers and steering-wheel-mounted controls.
Among the standard safety features for 2011 are ABS, stability and traction control, brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, as well as active front headrests and eight airbags.

Really!? The Tc is one of the biggest jokes of a "sport compact" and Toyota shot themselves in the foot with this thing replacing the Celica in the US. Someone tell me why would you stop selling one of the cars that put your company on the map for the past 30 years and 2 great cars (the Camry and Supra) where developed from it. One there is nothing appealing about this thing inside or out, it looks like an egg and I've seen a dashboard of a 95 F250 thats sun beaten and cracked that's more appealing to the eye than a Tc's.
Wow a new 2.5L with a 180 hp, who cares? A 2005 Corolla XRS has 200 hp with only a 1.8L. My 7th Gen 165 hp 1ZZ-Fe VVTI Celica Gt not only runs laps around a TC with getting over 30mpg, but all the ladies choose to ride in a car that compliments their looks.
I'm a person who has lived around the world and that is in his twenties, and let me just say this that everybody else laughs at the US when comes to cars.. among other things and oh you don't see a Tc going over 170 mph on the Autobahn but you do see many Celicas.

i'm thinking of trading my lexus for the new tc 2011. i hear scion's have great mpg. i had a debate with someone about two-door cars. i used to have one then moved up to a four-door and soon realized 90% of the time it's just me in the car. welcome back, two-door.

"It's ugly, it doesn't have a flow, just plain horrible lines. not even suficient power to make you forget of the bad design. I'll go and get a Genesis Coupe. I'm super desapointed and ungry at the people who designed this thing, wish Toyota fire them." ....What are you talking about!!! These cars are in completly different classes. Your comparing a 4cly to a 6cly of course; and a totally different price range... If you wanna compare like cars to the Genisis then go get a Acura TL or why not the nissan gtr if your gonna take this there. The new Scion will have plenty of mods to steal all the 4cly two wheel drive car fans. Plenty of power especially if you add the supercharger!! Fun to drive w/ the 6spd. Great job Scion!!! Finally a TC a hetrosexual male is not embarrassed to roll with.

Don't burn me at the stake for saying this, but I actually like the interior redesign. Its driver focused layout looks better IMO in comparison to the older model's cheap ho-hum design, and at first glance it reminds me of the GT-R's dash layout.

Wow there are a lot of haters of this redesign. I actually like it a lot. This makes me want to get out of my honda civic lx-s (As good and reliable of a basic car that it is). Its certainly not perfect in many ways, but it does address the major weaknesses of the outgoing model. More hp & torque, better mpg, better steering and handling. What more do you folks want for under 20k these days? This car has a lot of things on it that you dont get in most cars of the same price or even a little more. Not to continue to sound like a honda civic basher, but they make you pay extra for every single little thing. Call me crazy, but Im just philisophically opposed to spending almost 25k for a honda civic si (after all its still a honda civic). Anyway, this is a scion tc post, so getting back on track, this looks like a nice new model and I will check it out next year. Until then I just need to win the powerball so I can not be concerned with 20k cars and just buy a nice BMW or something.

Well thats all well and good if they want to be able to easily rebadge it and have it seamlessly blend in with the rest of Toyota's line up! They could just call it the Corolla Coupe or something. What the hell were they thinking?! The original tC was at least interesting. The front end of this car is bland and the rest is just plain ugly

Toyota has certainly started well on its way to becoming irrelevent. I have to say that the hint of the Scion Fuse concept styling in the car is great but is a total let down with the hint of late 90's Corolla looking front end and parts-bin looking interior. This is what we've waited all these years to see??? I expected alot more from Scion!!! And yes, Hyundai is certain to surpass Toyota in years to come. Toyota better wake up and start making REAL CARS again!!!! Not an ugly car by any means but sort of boring and not that much of a departure from the current version that is ever sooooo OLD!!!

Total Disappointment..i have an 05 tc rs.1 and after 6 years of being released the TC is just a joke. The only real thing i love about my car is the fact it has more cargo room than my fathers Camry. Increasing displacement and adding a little bit of power and flare isn't going to bring this car respect. Atleast not from people who like driving...

This is most certainly the progession of the line. Thumbs up to Toyota and their designers. Unlike other Manufactures who use inspiration from their Mini Van line to create a interior and make the driver rev the engine to the red lineto make any power. For all the haters go buy a Civic.
