CHICAGO — Scion adds to its list of limited-edition vehicles with the tC Release Series 5.0, to be unveiled this week at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. This car follows in the footsteps of the xB RS 6.0 that was on display at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
Performance-wise, the vehicle gets Toyota Racing Development's lowering springs, a rear sway bar and a sport muffler. The exterior is dressed in glossy black paint and features a rear lip spoiler and a TRD badge. It also has 18-inch multispoke alloys that continue the color theme with a matte black with red trim finish.
Inside, Scion added a black leather steering wheel with red stitching, black seats with the same red accents and floor mats equipped with the TRD logo.
Only 2,000 versions of the RS 5.0 will be produced, and the vehicle is priced at $2,970 (including processing and handling fees) over the standard tC price of $17,000 with the manual gearbox and $17,800 with the automatic. The optional rear lip spoiler will cost an additional $285, not including installation.
The 2009 tC RS 5.0 will hit dealerships this March.
Inside Line says: Scion takes care of most of the modding for you with the RS 5.0's many performance and styling enhancements. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
