GM Recalls 2008-'09 Saturn Vue Over Possible Power Steering Pump Problem

WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling 42,408 Saturn Vue crossovers because power steering fluid may leak, resulting in a possible engine compartment fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the nut securing the power steering line to the power steering pump may loosen," said NHTSA in its recall summary of the problem. "If this were to occur, there may be a power steering fluid leak. The fluid could contact hot exhaust components, resulting in a possible engine compartment fire."

Saturn dealers will check the nut securing the power steering line to the power steering pump. If there are no signs of a leak, dealers will tighten the nut. If a fluid leak is present, dealers will tighten the nut and check the fluid level.

The recall is expected to begin on September 26. Saturn owners can contact the company at (800) 972-8876.
