2008 Saturn Vue Red Line
What's special about it?
General Motors is going big on small performance SUVs for 2008. First the company unveiled the Chevrolet Equinox Sport and its near-twin Pontiac Torrent GXP, and at Chicago, GM will show the Saturn Vue Red Line, the high-performance version of the new Vue.
Like its corporate cousins, the Vue Red Line will be powered by a 3.6-liter DOHC V6. As in the Pontiac and Chevy, this so-called "high-feature" V6 will be mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the others, though, the Vue Red Line's V6 makes 250 horsepower — 13 fewer than the Pontiac and Chevy. The Red Line will be available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Compared to the standard Vue models that will go on sale in the spring, the Red Line has a stiffer suspension tune for better handling. The Red Line's round five-passenger body sits an inch lower than standard on 18-inch wheels (in place of the 16s or 17s).
The Red Line gets a unique front fascia with a huge, gaping maw of an air intake below and projector-beam foglamps. Dual chrome exhaust tips and modified taillamps round out the exterior changes. The interior comes trimmed in black, with leather sport seats featuring suede inserts.
The Red Line will go on sale in early fall of this year, a couple of months before the hybrid-drive Green Line version.
What's Edmunds' take?
The Red Line might just be the perfect vehicle for Saturn to do battle with the Pontiac Torrent GXP and Chevrolet Equinox Sport. Oh, wait. Strike that. — Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit
