The first model will be the 2007 Vue Green Line SUV. It will have a so-called "mild" hybrid system, yielding roughly a 10-percent savings in fuel economy, compared with the Vue's conventional gasoline engine. The EPA's fuel economy guide says the 2005 Vue with front-wheel drive gets 22 miles per gallon in city driving and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.
The Green Line name is a takeoff of Saturn's current Red Line performance variants, which include the Ion Red Line and the Vue Red Line.
What this means to you: General Motors has lagged behind Toyota and Honda in terms of getting hybrids into the hands of consumers. Saturn's announcement helps bring the Detroit automaker closer to competing with the Japanese and crosstown rival Ford.
