    What is it?
    Saturn SCX Concept

    What's special about it?
Built by Saturn Motorsports of San Diego, the SCX concept showcases the performance potential of the often-overlooked S Series coupe. The 1.9-liter engine uses an aftermarket cylinder head, throttle body and custom pistons and connecting rods to produce a whopping 300 horsepower — more than double that of the stock motor. Handling was improved with the addition of front and rear coilover adjustable shocks and thicker sway bars. The brakes were upgraded with 13-inch discs in front and 12-inch rotors in the rear.

The lean and mean look was achieved with new front and rear fascias and extended side rocker panels. The 18-inch wheels and tires were supplied by O.Z Racing and BFGoodrich, while the requisite aftermarket exhaust system consists of a B&B stainless steel muffler and 4.5-inch chrome tip. Carbon fiber roof rails and interior trim finish off the high-tech performance oriented look.

    Why should you care?
If you're big into turning your current S series coupe into a real street-scorcher, the SCX concept would be a pretty good blueprint for success. If you're hoping that Saturn might actually produce an econo hot rod like this, don't count on it. The S series is scheduled for a replacement by an all-new vehicle called the Ion next year. — Ed Hellwig
