Inside Line has learned the '07 Outlook will be introduced in late 2006 as the first in a series of large GM people movers. The new vehicle range will include companion models for Buick and GMC. The crossover vehicles, which will seat up to seven, are being developed on a new architecture known internally as Lambda. GM executives say the Lambda platform can accommodate V6 and V8 engines.
The Outlook is one of three all-new vehicles that will be launched by Saturn during the 2006 calendar year. All will be marketed as '07 models.
The first is a small two-passenger roadster, the Saturn Sky. A companion to the new Pontiac Solstice, the '07 Sky goes on sale next spring. The second is a new midsize sedan, the Saturn Aura. The '07 Aura will be introduced at midyear, and shares most underbody components with the Chevrolet Malibu, the Pontiac G6 and the Saab 9-3.
Saturn said the Aura will come with a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine. Also available will be a 250-horsepower DOHC 3.6-liter V6 with a new six-speed automatic transmission.
Concept versions of the Sky and the Aura were unveiled to the public in January at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show.
What this means to you: Saturn will finally flesh out its product portfolio big-time in 2006.
