What is it?
Saturn CV1
What's special about it?
This is Saturn's first concept vehicle. At 177 inches in length, the CV1 is 11.5 inches shorter than a Toyota Camry. Saturn says consumer needs prompted the design, not preconceived notions of what a car or truck should be. The small size aids maneuvering and parking. It's also packed with innovative features to improve utility. The CV1 can transport up to five adults and two children. Alternately, when cargo carrying is the priority, all the seats except the driver's can be folded flat. The three-passenger rear seat moves rearward to provide additional legroom or forward to maximize cargo space. Max cargo capacity is 85 cubic feet (a Camry provides 14.1). Trick rear bi-fold sliding doors allow easy access to the rear seats.
Why should you care?
Don't hold your breath over a production version of the CV1. However, you can expect the CV1 to influence future Saturn products. Things like the oversize radio and climate controls, innovative storage areas, LED brakelights, easy maintenance service points, and wheel-mounted tire pressure monitors would all be welcome. If nothing else, the CV1 shows there's intelligent life in Saturn's design studios.
