Want a 2009 Saturn Astra? Sorry

SPRING HILL, Tennessee — Saturn's Astra hatchback, based on the Opel of the same name, is skipping the 2009 model year entirely and reportedly going straight to 2010 models in the spring.

The Astra, sourced from GM's Opel unit in Europe, is built in Antwerp, Belgium. GM's media Web site listed a 2009 model in information posted last June, but the corporate site for consumers does not. No specific date for rollout of a 2010 model is given.

Dealers are still selling the 2008 until then, which was the first model year for the product in the U.S., and it's available in three-door and five-door styles with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 138 horsepower.

Inside Line says: That's one way to move unsold inventory before new models come in. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
