DETROIT — General Motors says it will cover any warranty remaining on Saab vehicles sold under its ownership of the Swedish brand. GM coverage does not include most 2010 and 2011 Saabs.
Saab Cars North America has suspended paying for warranty coverage on vehicles in the U.S. and Canada in the wake of the petition for bankruptcy liquidation filed Monday by parent Saab Automobile in Sweden.
"For GM, (warranty coverage includes) 2009 model year and earlier vehicles in the United States, plus a very small number of 2010s in Canada," wrote James R. Cain, a GM spokesman, in response to an e-mailed query Wednesday from Inside Line. "Everything else is Saab's responsibility."
Saab Cars North America said that "Saab owners should be advised to keep receipts of all related warranty work done or services performed until further notice." It said that "all Saab warranty reimbursements have been temporarily suspended until further direction from Saab Automobile AB."
New Saabs had carried a four-year, 50,000-mile warranty with roadside assistance and service loaners, as well as free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
The 3,000 new vehicles sitting unsold on dealer lots must be sold "as is," according to a Saab Cars North America memo to dealers. The memo noted that the company is suspending the processing and payment of all claim types, including recalls, towing, certified pre-owned coverage and no-charge maintenance.
Saab Cars North America is not in bankruptcy court here. A media conference call with Tim Colbeck, president and chief operating officer of Saab Cars North America, is expected late Wednesday.
Inside Line says: If you own a newer Saab, you're probably out of luck at this point when it comes to warranty coverage.

Simple-minded tribalism is no substitute for a coherent thought or argument.

Why did the UAW get a stake in GM when the bondholders and previous incarnation shareholders got buttfugked? I guess we need to take care of our "heroes of socialist labor." Thank the Obamunist.

@ziggerman he was a bit radical and of course being sarcastic....but alot of his points are right GM ruined Saab along time ago and it was clearly apparent they had little intention of keeping saab around the 97 the 92 the 93 never getting any noteworthy updates sames goes for the 95 its been on life support for years.......and the new 95 was a sad excuse for a 60,000 luxury sedan....

No 9-5 SportCombi has been built yet. In fact, I think it's technically not yet certified for road use. A shame. Gosh I HATE GM.

seansean2: You're hilarious! In one paragraph, you have used the concepts "theft","communism","patriotism" and "company ownership" and proved you don't understand any single one of them. Bravo, keep it coming!

Everyone should REFUSE to buy any of these left overs so that the prices drop to about $1000.

Great opportunity to pick up a new Saab cheap if you don't mind the risk. I wonder what a leftover SportCombi will go for? The window sticker was around $40k I believe. Maybe $25k? The savings should more than cover the average repairs during the warranty period. But will the parts even be available?
