Saab Aero X, Now Available in Icy Version

JUKKASJARVI, Sweden — Apparently when winter cabin fever sets in around here, the Swedes fire up the chainsaws and create unbelievable ice sculptures of such concept cars as the Saab Aero X. The Swedish automaker on Monday unveiled its icy take on the high-profile Aero X concept, which is the centerpiece of its "Saab Move Your Mind" room at the Icehotel.

Saab Chief Designer Simon Padian said the frosty version of the Aero X and its accompanying sound-and-light show is intended "to disrupt and challenge the visitors' perceptions of what is normal or expected." The installation is "designed to create an audiovisual experience that defies the senses," he added. No word on whether the ice sculpture is equipped with snow tires.

The two-seat Aero X concept, equipped with a 400-horsepower twin-turbocharged 2.8-liter V6, made its debut at the 2006 Geneva Auto Show. This concept rides on its own purpose-built platform with a 110-inch wheelbase and an idealized 50/50 weight distribution.
