- Saab will take the wraps off the 2012 9-5 SportCombi at the upcoming 2011 Geneva Auto Show.
- The U.S. version is likely to have only one powertrain and limited trim options.
- Pricing has not been announced, but the SportCombi body style typically sells for about $1,000 more than the Saab 9-5.
TROLLHATTAN, Sweden — The 2012 Saab 9-5 SportCombi, evidence that the brand's modest portfolio is growing, will make its formal debut at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. It will go on sale in the U.S. this fall, said the automaker in a statement.
Pricing has not been confirmed for the U.S., said Michele Tinson, Saab Cars North America spokesperson, in response to an e-mailed query from Inside Line on Wednesday morning. However, the SportCombi body style typically sells for about $1,000 more than the Saab 9-5. The current 9-5 is priced between $38,525 and $43,030.
"We may have only one powertrain in the U.S. and limited trim options," Tinson said when asked to provide more details about the 9-5 SportCombi.
"The launch of the 9-5 SportCombi is a much-awaited next step in the rollout of our new product offensive," said Jan Ake Jonsson, Saab Automobile CEO in a statement.
Saab did not provide technical specifications at this point. It noted that the wagon will get such features as adaptive cruise control, bi-xenon adaptive lighting, keyless entry, tri-zone air-conditioning and a head-up display patterned after those in aircraft.
The SportCombi will be built in Trollhattan, Sweden, where Saab's factory produces four different models.

The SportCombi looks like just another Gas Guzzling SUV , unfortunatley Spyker is making the same ernormous mistake GM did by designing Gas Guzzling Pigs instead of the 5-door hatchback that built
the company. I'm sure FAT Americans will fit better in the new oversized seats, placed higher up so
fat asses can waddle in and out better.
I own a 2001 SAAB 9-3 Hatchback and have owned a 1996 SAAB 900s. They are excellent vehicles when it comes to cargo volume and being user friendly, unlike tipsy bad handling SUV's.

Its a great looking car and I will surely be reading all the opinons about it. I wish other car manufacturers made wagons for the cheaper segment like the Altima and be similarly priced to the sedan as well.
"Too bad they if they either a) neuter it with a base engine and soft suspension, or b)only offer expensive Aero versions with tons of options on them. The result will be lower sales than otherwise, therefore 'confirming' that 'wagons don't sell in the states.'"
That is very true and exactly what Volkswagen did with the Jetta Wagon diesel. I hate them for that.

Man, with the AWD and engine from the sporty Areo sedan, not to mention the great looks made better by the wagon body (IMO), this would be my second choice for a Family-Car behind the CTS-V Wagon (supposing I had the money lol). Considering the price difference, I hope they import enough wagons to the USA that they'll be a little bit possible to find used in a couple fo years.

Nice-looking-- the rear looks better than the rear of the sedan.
It is hard to evaluate this, but how does it compare to a comparable wagon? Or, aren't there any?
This car looks like it could be worth the money... almost... for those who have the 50K, anyway. I would think it will come with the V6.

The horrible resale is a god send for folks like me who buy used. I like Saabs (I'm on my 2nd one) and they make great used car buys. If I can resist buying a '08 Turbo X, I would definitely check these out in 2 years time.

I just bought a new car, but this is an appealing design. Too bad they if they either a) neuter it with a base engine and soft suspension, or b)only offer expensive Aero versions with tons of options on them. The result will be lower sales than otherwise, therefore "confirming" that "wagons don't sell in the states".
Fast, spacious, safe, good utility, nice looking. Whats' not to like? (except the horrible Saab resale)

I hope it comes with both the 4 cylinder and the V6!
