    What Is It?
2006 Saab 9-5 Sedan and Wagon

    What's Special About It?
The 2006 Saab 9-5 isn't a new car, but it is a significant face-lift in both sedan and wagon (SportCombi in Saab-speak) forms.

At the front end, everything forward of the A-pillar is new sheet metal, including a revised grille with the wing motif lifted from Saab's 9X concept car. New light assemblies feature projector-beam headlights in front and a new rear light cluster. Color-key bumpers and trim are also part of the plan.

Inside the leather-clad cabin, Saab has redesigned the 9-5's dash to put the information display in the instrument panel, where the driver's eyes can more quickly and easily catch it, and away from the center of the dash.

Although the 2006 models are based on the current 9-5 platform, Saab engineers retuned the 9-5 suspension for better response and less roll without any hiccups in ride comfort. If you're looking for even more response, order the 9-5 Sport package which includes an even tighter suspension, sport seats and navigation.

All the 2006 9-5s are powered by a 260-horsepower, turbocharged, 2.3-liter four-cylinder sourced from the European Aero models.

And the best part of all is that the 2006 Saab 9-5 Sedans and SportCombis, which are expected in showrooms beginning December 1st, will cost about $1,000 less than the current models.

    What's Edmunds' Take?
It's built in Sweden and it doesn't do any platform sharing along the assembly line with any other GM models. If you're a Saab purist, this is the purest Saab. — Richard Homan
