2004 Saab 9-3 Convertible
What's Special About It?
Stylish looks, nimble handling and a choice of two turbocharged engines should make this new drop top from Saab every bit as popular as its predecessor. Designed right alongside the recently introduced 9-3 sedan, the convertible incorporates extensive structural reinforcements to make up for the loss of rigidity associated with the folding roof. The top itself is fully automatic and folds away in just 20 seconds. Pop-up roll bars behind the rear headrests stand ready to deploy in the event of a vehicle rollover along with seatbelt pre-tensioners at all four seating positions. Another unique new feature is an available "Cargo Wing" trunk spoiler that doubles as a ski/snowboard carrier for those days when you prefer to use the 9-3 as a skimobile instead of a sun chaser. Like the sedan, the convertible will be available in three trim levels Linear, Arc and Vector and offer a choice of either a 175-horsepower or 210-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.
Why Should You Care?
Finding a good convertible isn't easy these days. Miatas and MR2s are fun but tiny and most of the larger drop tops have equally large price tags. The 9-3 isn't exactly cheap but for its modest price tag it should provide all the style, safety and performance of the big boys without popping the lid on your wallet
