DETROIT — Official images of the Saab 9-4X Biopower concept that will debut next week at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show have flooded the Internet in the past 24 hours, thanks in part to several enterprising Dutch Web sites, including that of the newspaper Autotelegraaf.

Along with the images is word that the concept will feature Saab's intelligent all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 245 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque on gasoline and 300 hp and 295 lb-ft on E85 ethanol. Six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be available.

As reported previously in Inside Line, the production version of the 9-4X will share its underpinnings with the upcoming Cadillac BRX, which is also being previewed next week in the Cadillac Provoq concept. Both models, which are based on General Motors' TE architecture (derived from the Chevrolet Equinox and Saturn Vue), are slated to go into production next year in Mexico.

What this means to you: Finally, a new Saab that doesn't look like a Chevy or a Subie. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
