2008 Geneva Auto Show Preview: Saab 9-1X

GENEVA — If you haven't figured out where Saab's upcoming 9-1X compact will draw its styling influences from, one of several teaser shots released by the General Motors subsidiary provides a fairly pointed clue: The concept is positioned between the acclaimed Aero X and 9X concepts.

Aimed at the Volvo C30, among other European competitors, the 9-1X will join the recently unveiled 9-4X crossover in Saab's revitalized portfolio.

The production 9-1X is expected to share GM's Delta global compact platform with the next-generation Opel/Saturn Astra, and will go into production in early 2009.

What this means to you: At long last, a new Saab car that doesn't share sheet metal or underpinnings with Chevrolet or Subaru. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
