Green Tuner Special: eRuf Greenster

PFAFFENHAUSEN, Germany — Ruf Automobile, in partnership with German electronics giant Siemens, has created the eRuf Greenster, a battery-powered Porsche 911 with Tesla-like performance specs.

Siemens provided the eDrive, a system that integrates an electric motor/generator, power electronics and an interface with the lithium-ion battery pack, which can be quick-charged in less than an hour from a special 400-volt power outlet.

Performance is phenomenal. The mid-mounted electric motor produces 362 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque. The car goes from zero to 60 mph in roughly 5.0 seconds, has a top speed of 155 mph and a range of 155 miles between charges according to Ruf.

The eRuf Greenster features a targa-style body with a removable roof, soft rear window and roll bar. The car is fitted with 19-inch forged alloy wheels and ceramic brake discs.

Ruf is planning a modest production run for the Greenster, with the first cars slated to be delivered to customers in 2010.
