AUBURN, Indiana — The 1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith touring limousine that figured prominently in the 1981 movie Arthur is expected to fetch $100,000-$125,000 during a March auction.
Auctions America by RM said it will offer the car at its Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale sale March 16-18 at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The limo provided an elegant backdrop to Arthur's opening scene, in which actor Dudley Moore, playing a happy — but lonely — drunk, can be heard laughing from the backseat as the car cruises in nighttime Manhattan. The movie was remade in 2011 starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner, with Brand driving not a Rolls, but the Batmobile.
"This '56 Rolls-Royce personifies the glamour and prestige of a golden era," said Donnie Gould, president of Auctions America. "It was recently refurbished by its present owner to look as pristine as it did in the movie."
Other cars with celebrity links being offered at the Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale event include a 1933 Cadillac seen in the 2003 film Seabiscuit and a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 owned by Formula One champion and Indianapolis 500 winner Jacques Villeneuve.
