2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost: Originally unveiled at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show, the Ghost is the new entry-level offering in the Rolls-Royce lineup. And by "entry-level," we mean a quarter-million-dollar, ultra-luxury sedan with steel monocoque construction that's 15.7 inches shorter, nose to tail, than a Phantom sedan. At 129.7 inches, the Ghost's wheelbase is 11 inches shorter.
The 2010 Ghost has an all-new, twin-turbocharged, 6.6-liter V12 good for 563 horsepower and 575 lb-ft of torque. We expect this engine to replace the underachieving, 453-hp, 6.7-liter V12 used in the Phantom line for the 2011 model year. The excellent new ZF-built, eight-speed automatic (already used in the BMW 5 Series GT) drives the Ghost's rear wheels. Accelerating to 60 mph should take 4.8 seconds by Rolls-Royce's estimate, with the quarter-mile wafting by in 13.2 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
Suspension consists of a double-wishbone design up front and a multilink rear; air springs and adaptive dampers are fitted at all four corners.
All the latest BMW technology is on board the 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost, including a 360-degree camera system, a lane departure warning system, a night-vision system, a head-up display and automatic high-beams.
A Ghost convertible is rumored to be in the works for 2011.
