FULDA, Germany — EDAG, the German engineering concern, is massaging a Rolls-Royce Phantom to show off its latest ideas and systems for luxury vehicles.

Among the innovative concepts on the EDAG Phantom is an articulated roof over the rear-seat area so occupants can enter and exit the vehicle without bumping their heads. The electrohydraulic system is activated by pressing a button.

EDAG also plans to show ways to link so-called "nomadic" devices such as PDAs, mobile phones and laptop computers, as well as providing onboard Internet access via a fully integrated electronics network.

What this means to you: The EDAG roof does not improve the looks of the Phantom. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
