GOODWOOD, England — The custom Masterpiece London 2011 Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe includes a custom Asprey jewelry box that tucks into the glovebox — a strange touch that must be as puzzling to the unwashed masses as cupholders are to German auto engineers.
Rolls-Royce illustrated the jewelry box via a photograph that shows a glittering flower-shaped ring, some diamond earrings and cuff links. The high-end automaker said the jewelry box "presents stylish and secure storage for these essential valuables before drivers and their passengers sink back into sumptuous leather seats, set the roof down and head out of town." So now we know that the rich strip off their finery before hitting the accelerator pedal.
Asprey is the London luxury goods manufacturer known for the "scarf belt," a brilliant piece of merchandise that debuted in its spring 2011 collection. Essentially half of a belt, the item sells for $248. The scarf is sold separately and can cost as much as $450.
The custom Rolls-Royce was created for Masterpiece London, a ritzy design fair in London that promotes everything from pink diamonds to Ruinart Champagne. It runs from June 30-July 5.
The unique Rolls-Royce — a one-off cosmetics package — is the first to get custom "Mazarine Blue" paint that is inspired by the Mazarine Blue butterfly. Sadly, the deep blue butterfly used to be native to Britain, but is now extinct, according to a United Kingdom butterfly guide.
The car also features gauges finished in mother-of-pearl, yacht-inspired teak decking and a four-piece set of custom luggage.
Rolls-Royce says the car was designed to "capture the essence of a perfect weekend getaway."
"It's a model that demonstrates the breadth of our bespoke offering, where the only limit to what we can deliver is a client's imagination," said Torsten Muller-Otvos, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in a statement.
Inside Line says: A strange look at how the other half lives, especially in an era when thieves will break into your car to steal change from the center console without a second thought.

Kaidan - he might have meant the bank bailouts. They were much bigger and less publicised than the auto bailouts. The bankers helped cause the issues and got hundreds of billions in bailout funds (Goldman Sachs, AIG, Citi etc).

"So this is where all my bailout money is going?"
Can you elaborate? Last time I checked RR wasn't part of GM or Chrysler.

That is gorgeous. (i'd like to think people who are out and about in this car are smart enough to put up the roof and lock it. I saw a Lambo at the mall the other day, roof down....not a good area either.
