ARCTIC CIRCLE — A new prototype that looks suspiciously like the long-rumored baby Rolls-Royce has just arrived at BMW's test center in the Arctic Circle. Fresh off the transport truck, the small Rolls has yet to make its first tire tracks in the snow.
The new Rolls-Royce test mule has a tall, upright, Phantom-like grille and from the angle of these spy photos, the windshield and A-pillar appear to be shared with the 2010 BMW 7 Series prototype parked next to it.
Rumors regarding a new, small Rolls-Royce hinted that BMW's next-generation 7 Series would serve as a platform donor, and the spy photos support this theory. One angle suggests that everything behind the A- pillar may be identical to other 7 Series testers. If so, it could mean the Rolls' new front end has just been tacked-on for engine-cooling validation.
What this means to you: The notion of a new small Rolls-Royce has now become an engineering reality. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
