Rolls-Royce Confirms Details of RR4 Baby Rolls
Executives wouldn't specify which existing chassis will be the donor car, but it is expected to be the new BMW 7 Series, which also shares a chassis with the Phantom. Officials did confirm that the RR4 will use BMW components in the areas the customer does not see, including electronics and suspension.
The 2010 Rolls will be built in Goodwood, and working prototypes are already undergoing testing, as evidenced by spy photos taken earlier this year. The Goodwood factory has been retooled to build the RR4, and is currently staffing up for production.
Rolls-Royce expects the addition of the RR4 to expand the company's sales volume beyond the 1,010 vehicles it sold worldwide in 2007.
What this means to you: Rolls-Royce hopes the RR4 will help the company gain a larger slice of the small ultra-luxury pie. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
