What Is It?
Rolls-Royce 100EX Concept
What's Special About It?
Designed to commemorate 100 years of Rolls-Royce as well as look ahead to what's in store for the future, the 100EX is an ambitious reinvention of the early 20th-century luxury convertible. Wearing the same imposing face as the Phantom sedan, the 100EX uses a body that's both shorter and lower than the sedan in order to convey a more believable sense of athleticism. An aluminum spaceframe keeps it lightweight yet stiff, while a 16-cylinder engine assures plenty of instantaneous thrust at any speed. The nautical-themed interior sports teak floors, dark leather and enough room for four adults to sit comfortably. When the plan calls for an extended stay outdoors, the split trunk lid even folds out to transform the 100EX into the world's most extravagant tailgate vehicle. We're guessing wine and brie and not Bud Lights and Doritos at that party.
What's Edmunds Take?
We still haven't quite fully taken in the Phantom and now this? It's an imposing vehicle by its sheer dimensions alone, but there's something about that face that makes it hard to warm up to. Rolls-Royce calls it a purely experimental car, but with the Corniche getting on in its years we wouldn't be surprised to see something similar to the 100EX join the lineup soon. Maybe by then we'll have figured out the Phantom and be ready for the 100EX all 18 feet of it. Ed Hellwig
