SHANGHAI, China — Shanghai Auto's premium Roewe brand will hit the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show next week with several new models, including a flagship sedan called R95.
What's significant about the big four-door is its Korean roots. The R95 started life as the Ssangyong Chairman W, one of the few luxury sedans built and sold in Korea. Shanghai Auto (SAIC) controlled Ssangyong until late last year and had planned to launch several Ssangyong-based models in China under the Roewe name.
It has been reported that the R95 will be offered in standard and long-wheelbase versions and will come with a choice of 2.8- and 3.6-liter V6 engines.
