FRANKFURT, Germany Forget the silly inline-skate theme. Look at Renault's Kangoo Compact Concept, based on the French automaker's redesigned city delivery vehicle, as a hip new leisure utility vehicle for young singles.

The three-door body houses four passengers and has a two-tone paint scheme in "fireball orange" and brushed aluminum. At 157 inches long, the Kangoo Compact is a foot and a half shorter than a Ford Escape, but it has ample interior space. It also boasts LED headlamps, a panoramic glass roof and a hinged, removable rear roof section for open-air motoring and leisure activities.

The ride height has been raised 7.9 inches for better off-road dynamics. The vehicle rides on 19-inch tires and aluminum wheels with five blue-tinged translucent spokes.

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter common-rail turbodiesel engine equipped with a particulate filter. The four-cylinder delivers 105 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque.

The cabin is finished in "skate blue" leather with "aluminum gray" mesh fabric and "tonic orange" accents. The front seats slide forward, and the rear bench seat swivels 180 degrees. There are purpose-built bins in the side panels, and the dashboard and steering wheel are covered in slip-proof material.

What this means to you: We think this compact "city delivery vehicle" has true cult-status potential in North America.
