GENEVA — Renault has introduced two new performance models at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show that are based on popular production vehicles: the Clio Renaultsport 200 and the Mégane Renaultsport 250.

The Clio Renaultsport 200 hatchback is available in standard and Cup editions. Manufactured at the Alpine factory in Dieppe, France, the Clio Renaultsport 200 gets a 200-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, Brembo front brake calipers, 17-inch tires and alloy wheels, upgraded front suspension, wider track and such aero add-ons as front-fender air extractors, a front splitter and a rear diffuser.

The cabin sports aluminum pedal covers, a perforated-leather-wrapped steering wheel and sport bucket seats.

The Clio Renaultsport 200 Cup features a stiffer and lighter chassis, quicker steering and a lower ride height and has a lower equipment level than the standard Clio Renaultsport 200.

The larger Mégane Renaultsport 250 is also offered in standard and Cup editions. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 250 hp and 251 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Among the features are a front splitter, extended sills and wheel arches, rear diffuser with central exhaust pipe, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Aluminum pedals, a Renaultsport steering wheel with thumb grips, analog tach and sport seats with extra lateral support dress up the cabin.

The Mégane Renaultsport 250 Cup gets a stiffer suspension and a limited-slip differential.

Inside Line says: Affordable performance in several different sizes and flavors. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
