GENEVA — Porsche is expected to unveil the Panamera Hybrid, as well as a new diesel version of its four-door sedan, at the upcoming 2011 Geneva Auto Show. The Panamera Hybrid is likely to arrive in the U.S. later this year as a 2012 model.

Porsche first disclosed details of the future Panamera Hybrid in early 2008, saying it would share a parallel-hybrid system with the Cayenne Hybrid. Porsche's system enables the vehicle to operate with an electric motor, a gasoline engine or a combination of both.

In a diagram of the Panamera Hybrid released three years ago, the battery pack is located in the luggage compartment. The hybrid module — which bundles the electric motor and an additional clutch — is positioned between the engine and gearbox.

In a press release on Friday, Porsche would confirm only that it will host "the world premiere of a parallel full hybrid model" at the Geneva auto show.

Inside Line says: No clue yet on pricing, but the 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid fetches a modest $3,300 premium over the standard gasoline-powered Cayenne S. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

There isn't one. Porsche actually pioneered hybrid technology back in the first part of the 20th century w/ the Lohner Porsches. Adding it to a mainstream model that is a volume seller and allows Porsche to keep cranking out their GT line, Turbos, and supercars like the 918 is a no-brainer and something any enthusiast should be happy about....
