    Just the Facts:
    • The 2011 Porsche Panamera V8 will earn better fuel economy.
    • New Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus option is said to enhance traction on curvy roads.
    • Exterior color choices have been expanded for the 2011 Panamera.

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche said the 2011 Panamera V8 models, which go on sale in Europe in August, will feature new options and enhancements that boost fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.

Contributing to lower fuel consumption are a new standard brake-energy-recuperation system and optional low-rolling-resistance 19-inch all-season tires. The brake-energy-recuperation system charges the battery when the brakes are applied.

The combination boosts fuel economy on the range-topping Panamera Turbo to 21 mpg and on the Panamera S and Panamera 4S to 23 mpg and 22 mpg, respectively, on the EU combined driving cycle. The vehicles also see a reduction in CO2 emissions.

A new option is Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. PTV Plus applies brake pressure to the inner rear wheel when entering a curve and, combined with a rear differential lock, enhances traction in the rear when accelerating out of the curve.

The 2011 Panamera will offer a wider color palette, more leather options and equipment enhancements, the company said.

bankerdanny, blueguy is pretty accurate.  IF the brakes can do most of the charging, the alternator doesn't have to engage (like an A/C compressor) and consume any HP.  I believe continental makes this energy regeneration system, and they were quoted saying it could deliver up to a 6% efficiency gain.  6% is pretty heavy now in the new CAFE days.

@banker, I believe Porsche and BMW have been use braking regen in their euro cars produce lighter cars that do not have a traditional alternator.

Why would you need brake enhanced batter regeneration in a conventional ICE vehicle?

"low-rolling-resistance 19-inch all-season tires" - I think Ferry is spinning in his grave.
