2010 Porsche Panamera Sales Kick Into High Gear

ATLANTA/STUTTGART and LEIPZIG, Germany — Anyone who was betting that sales of the 2010 Porsche Panamera would be hampered by the recession and a downturn in the luxury-goods market got a wake-up call from the German automaker on Monday. Porsche reported that it has built the 10,000th Panamera and that top-of-the-line versions of the sedan are selling at a brisk pace.

Porsche said the $93,800 Panamera 4S is "proving particularly popular," accounting for 44 percent of sales. The Panamera Turbo, with a price tag of $132,600, accounts for 36 percent of sales, while the $89,800 Panamera S accounts for 20 percent of sales.

In a statement, Porsche said that "sales of the Panamera have really taken off."

The milestone 10,000 Panamera is a 500-horsepower platinum silver metallic Turbo. It is bound for a customer in Singapore.

Hmm... Actually, I was betting the Panamera's sales would be hampered by its ugliness, not the recession.  I guess money doesn't mean you got style.

The picture is of the 10,000th Panamera built.  They've sold just over 9,000 of them.  The balance are at dealerships around the world or in transit to said dealerships...

Not that Porshe building an $80K plus sedan has any relevance to my life, or the life of anyone I know, but I bet 90% (maybe more) of those cars are headed to Asia, or Europe. Especially the Chinese, as they're the only ones who can afford play toys like this now. Americans are sucking wind, since the free money 80's, 90's, and early 00's are gone for good. Now the pretend rich have been separated from the real rich in this country, since it was the pretend rich who spent most of their money on toys like this. When you take into account most of the wealthy in this country have taken a serious hit their net worth, and it starts becoming more important keeping the doors to the business open and saving cash than blowing it on frivilous play toys. It's nice actually, I view it as a return to normalcy.

I'm sure they'll be no shortage of ridiculously wealthy rap stars, pro atheletes, and movie stars clamoring for one though. They will look great with the tacky 22" chome wheels they are sure to outfit them with.

I love That German auto factory workers dress like the famous Italian Mario but where's Luigi?

Because 10,000th car is sold it still doesn't mean that the ones built before it are as well. Another article (reporting on this) I have read today claims "Chairman of the Board of Porsche AG, Said Panameras have really taken off: we have already secured over 9,000 orders" the caption makes it sound as though 10,000 have been sold. Orders can be canceled but either way it sounds as though the Panamera is a hit.  I just won't quote anyone on this till 10,000 Porsches have actually left the factory.

Once I start my own orthodontistry firm and decide driving around a car as shapely as a beached Beluga whale is a good idea I'll contribute to this sales phenemenon

Here's a possibility: they are selling faster than they can build them and #10000 is already claimed by a buyer just waiting for it to be delivered.
    Consider these two statements together:
"Porsche reported that it has built the 10,000th Panamera and that top-of-the-line versions of the sedan are selling at a brisk pace."
"The milestone 10,000 Panamera is a 500-horsepower platinum silver metallic Turbo. It is bound for a customer in Singapore."

I'm afraid you're right. Yet the caption on the first picture reads- "The 10,000th 2010 Porsche Panamera has been sold already, after only three months" ...can Inside line please not contradict itself. Is the Panamera sold at 10,000 or produced at 10,000?
everything I've found concur with matt310.

I think "built" and "sold" are two very different terms, here.  The press release says 'built'.
