ATLANTA — Porsche Cars North America is adding a more potent V8 edition to its Cayenne range, the GTS. On sale in February, the 2008 Cayenne GTS will be priced from $70,195, including an $895 shipping charge. A fully loaded GTS is expected to top out in the low $70,000s.

The GTS is slotted between the Cayenne S ($58,795) and the top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo ($94,595). It shares a version of the 4.8-liter V8 that powers the Cayenne S, with output lifted from 385 to 405 horsepower. For the first time, Cayenne buyers can also order a six-speed manual in place of the standard Tiptronic transmission.

The GTS rides on 21-inch alloy wheels shod with 295/35R21 tires. Features include air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management.

Porsche has lowered the body and fitted a front fascia with styling cues from the Cayenne Turbo. There are new Alcantara-upholstered seats front and rear. A dual-winged rear spoiler is optional at no additional cost.
