Porsche Updates Rally Cayenne for 2008

STUTTGART, Germany — After the running of the Transsyberia event last year, Porsche decided to offer some changes to its rally truck. The same teams that bought the trucks for last year's race now have the chance to upgrade them with a conversion package that further beefs up the Cayenne S.

Most of the modifications continue to improve the off-road capability of the truck, like the addition of a stronger sump guard, higher sidewalls, bigger tires, advanced air suspension with rally shock absorbers and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). PDCC features two active antiroll bars, stiffening the chassis and helping the truck endure all the hardships of a marathon rally. Because this is just a conversion kit, the Transsyberia will still include all of the stock features and off-road goodies Porsche originally provided with the 2007 version.

The vehicles will trek a total distance of 4,400 miles from Moscow to Mongolia, and teams will begin this two-week challenge on July 11.

What this means to you: The kit furthers the conversion of the Cayenne S from a luxury SUV to a long-distance rallying beast. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
